Good evening and welcome to the commencement ceremonies of the class of 2006. It has been a long journey, somewhere around 18 years, but weve finally reached the piece de resistance of our high school years. Im not very good at this sentimental thing, so I scratched up a little poem. Ladies and Gentleman, may I present to you, Ode to the Class of 06. ODE TO THE CLASS OF 2012 Twas the night of graduation, and under the steeple there were very, very emotional people. Thoughts of the future, thoughts of the past, memories which will always last. It all started when we walked through the door, How many years ago? -- -- Oh it was four! Freshman year we started as prepubescent teens, with backwards caps†¦show more content†¦This is our saga, the tale of our evolution, Watch us go forth and become part of the next revolution. Be careful around us, watch what you say, cause youll be working for us someday. If you were to ask any of us two years ago, Im sure the last thing on our minds was graduation. In fact, graduation has sort of snuck up on me, and this past week Ive been left wondering, Where have the past four years gone? You see, graduation is a matter of perception. For tonight is both the beginning and the end. For some of us, it is like Yes, were finally out of here! No more listening the monotonous drudgery of zero period calculus. No more last minute, late night writing (at least for a little while). No more reckless car races to school in the morning out of hopes of beating the bell. And, yes, Mr. Barnes, no more facial hair warning. But on the flip side of the coin, the glory years of high school are over, too. All the dreams of winning the League Championship, and experiences of high school athletics have become memories. No longer can we wear our letterman jackets with pride. No longer will Mom be there to cook us dinner. No longer will Dad check to see if we put oil in the car.
